Early Assessment Program Helps Reduce Need for College Remediation Courses |
According to a recent Sacramento Bee article (4/24, B2, Rosenhall), after California high schools began testing students with the “Early Assessment Program”, which includes 15 additional questions during the junior year California Standards Test, there has been a reduction in the number of freshmen at Sacramento State that need remedial math or English. The researchers from UC Davis, Sacramento State, and University of Minnesota found enrollment in remedial math dropped by 4% and remedial English dropped by 6% since the EAP was enacted. The findings help establish that such testing saves students and taxpayers in the long run by cutting the number of costly remediation classes needed at the university level.
